Another book from IITD

Prof. PL Dhar, professor in Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Delhi, has come up with a
fiction based novel “2095” this summer. He has been actively working in the field of integration of
science and technology and human values, and in this respect has already written two books and
published many research articles but this time he has used fiction to edify people’s minds regarding
impetuous industrialization and reckless exploitation of natural resources.

“2095” is a well crafted story that tells the repercussions of the present reckless use of natural
resources. It is a sci-fi story that merges Gandhian and Budha’s philosophies into it. The story is
set in the future and begins in 2062 when the world is faced by many dreadful disasters such as
extinction of many species of birds and animals, an iceless summer in the arctic and the depletion
of oil reserves. In 2063, even India’s sacred river Ganga dries up. In order to reduce the emission of
the greenhouse gases and preserve the exhausting oil reserves, the world leaders take a very crucial
decision that bans the international transportation and shuts down the whole of import-export
trade and renders millions of people jobless .Seeking for a solution,at the end, people turn to simple
way of living and follow Gandhian and Buddha’s path.

One must read the book to experience where the present pace of industrialization may lead to and
how Gandhian and Buddha’s philosophies can still be adopted to prevent the doomsday to come.
